Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Xu Fuxiang and others in 1976. The naming section is located at the Jiji Gully of the Allashan Right Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Synonym: (芨芨沟群)


Lithology and Thickness

Composed of grey-white gritstone, grey and yellow-brown fine-grained sandstone, siltstone, grey-violet shale, thin-bedded marl, carbonaceous shale and coal seams, with a thickness of 339 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as the Qingtujing Gr.

Upper contact

It is unconformably overlying the Archean. Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next older unit as Xiangtang Fm

Regional extent

The group is distributed in the tidal basins, including the areas of the Alashan Right Banner of Inner Mongolia, Gaotai and Minqin Counties of Gansu Province.

Fossils

It yields plant fossils as represented by Neocalamites sp., Coniopteris cf. hymenophylloides, Cladophlebis fantznensis, Todites cf. denticulate, Baiera gracilis and etc.
